ASSISTANT LIGHTING DESIGNER

 

 

 The Assistant Lighting Designer will assist the LD in all areas of planned lighting designs

 

 Responsibilities prior to load-in are primarily in assisting in the preparation of design paperwork:

 

1.            Read the script and familiarize yourself with the production concept

 

2.            Assist in drafting of light plot and section if necessary

 

3.            Preparation of shop order

 

4.            Preparation of instrument schedule of focus chart to facilitate focus calls later

 

5.            Prepare paperwork for use in tech rehearsals: track sheets, etc.

 

 Load in Responsibilities:

 

1.            Attend light hang calls to help facilitate work of ME, particularly those calls which the designer is unable to attend

 

2.            Assist LD at focus call by having paperwork organized into either focus charts or instrument schedules so that focussing can be accomplished on a per position rather than per channel basis

 

3.            Assist LD in subsequent touch up and work calls

 

Tech Rehearsal Responsibilities:                                                                                                                                      

 

1.            Assist lighting designer in writing light cues by keeping a set of track sheets (one for each cue)

 

2.            Take notes for the LD regarding focus touch up and other work notes

 

3.            Take notes for the LD regarding cue look and placement

 

4.            Act as liaison, if needed, between stage manager and LD with regard to cue calling (placement of cues) and use of stage for work related calls

 

 Maintenance of run responsibilities:

 

1.            Turn over updated paperwork (plot, hookup, instrument schedule, and designers magic sheet) to the stage manager

 

2.            Work with stage manager and deck electrician in learning the focus of the lights

 

3.            Supervise a focus touch up call if needed

 

 Strike responsibilities:

 

1.            Coordinate the return of borrowed equipment (in association with the HE)
