LIGHTING DESIGNER


 

The lighting designer for a University Theatre Production is responsible for the designing of the lighting environment for the production.                                                                                                                                                                                 

 

Design Duties:

 

           1.      Meet with director and other designers to develop the visual concept:

·         background reading

·         research

·         preliminary sketches or other graphic communication

           2.      Development of finalized lighting design paperwork

·         light plot (1/2" scale)

·         hanging section (1/2" scale)

·         hookup

·         shop order

·         instrument schedule

·         special effects plans

 

         3.      Attend rehearsals as necessary to develop cuing sequence and be familiar with 

                  blocking in order to focus lights

 

Load-in Responsibilities:

 

1.     Attend light hang calls as necessary to facilitate work of Head Electrician

 

             2.     Organize and supervise focus calls with assistance of ALD

 

             3.     Work with HE as needed for subsequent touch up and work calls

 

Tech Rehearsal responsibilities:

 

1.     Set light levels (write light cues) at some time prior to first tech

 

2.     Attend first tech and all subsequent tech rehearsals where designer should fine tune   

        his-her lighting compositions

 

3.     Work with the lighting design TA in charge of control and the HE on training the 

         board operator and deck electrician in the maintenance of the show
