Assistant Scenic Artist
The Assistant Scenic Artist (ASA) is a lead painter working under the direction of the Scenic Artist (SA) and assists in the supervision of the paint crew.
Duties
during the Work Period:
1. Familiarize yourself with the script and the production concept.
2. Assist the SA in supervising the work of the paint crew. Help train the crew in the painting technique(s) to be used.
3.
Assist the SA in the preparation and labeling of paints and stencils,
equipment modification, flame-proofing, finishing of props, or as otherwise
directed by the SA.
4. Paint scenery, and assist SA in giving direction to the paint crew
5. Supervise the crew in the clean-up of all equipment and the paint shop following each work session. Return materials to their assigned place; save all paint that can be used again; cover all paint and glue containers; clean brushes and other application tools.
Duties
during the Technical Rehearsal and Performance Period:
l. Assist in moving the scenery to the stage, as directed by the TD.
2. Perform touch-up or repainting tasks as directed by the SA when the scenery is on stage.
Duties
during the Clean-up Period:
l. Consolidate left-over, useable paint for future use as a base coat paint.
2. Organize the paint area when the scene shop is cleared of scenery.
3. Direct the final cleanup of the paint shop and equipment during strike. When finished, assist other crews. One crew is not finished until everyone is finished.

1. Your immediate supervisor is the Scenic Artist, followed by the Paint TA.
