The
dressers’ duty is to make sure the actor appears onstage with all his or her
costume items maintained and worn properly.
Duties during the Pre-Tech Rehearsal Period:
1. Attend
meetings called by Wardrobe Supervisor.
2. Attend a run-through rehearsal prior to
Dress Parade to familiarize self with show.
3. Assist Wardrobe Supervisor with all
pre-Dress Parade responsibilities. This includes: labeling, minor sewing and
organization of the costumes.
4. Assist Wardrobe Supervisor in the checkout
of costumes for actors on Dress Parade day.
5. Assist
Wardrobe Supervisor in Dress Parade.
Duties during the Tech Rehearsal and
Performance Period:
1. Attend Tech/Dress Rehearsal, Dress
Rehearsals, Preview and all performances.
2. Sign in at the designated time - call time
dependent on your pre-show duties.
3. Accomplish any needed repairs and washing
and ironing before the next performance at the direction of the Wardrobe
Supervisor.
4. Account for all costume items in dressing
room before actor call and after performance.
5. Pre-set and breakdown quick change areas.
Note that the prop crew is responsible for pre-setting costume items onstage.
Prop crew to give dresser costume items left onstage.
6. Assist the actor into costume as needed
before and during performance.
7. If actor dresses self, make sure the actor
is properly dressed prior to entrance. Stay within call of your designated
actors in order to be of assistance.
8. Assist
actor with special makeup and hair items.
9. Handle
any of the on the spot repairs and emergencies.
10. Write repairs needed on the sheet provided
- if actor does not write down repair.
11. Report anything wrong, damaged or missing
to Wardrobe Supervisor.
12. Make sure costumes are hung properly and
the dressing rooms left tidy at the end of each rehearsal and performance.
13. Observe and enforce smoking and beverage
rules - neither are allowed ON or BACK stage. . Actors are never allowed to
smoke or eat in costume.
14. Memorial Union shows - see that costumes
transported to dressing rooms one hour before performances.
15. Dressing Room conditions are not ideal.
Space is limited, so is privacy. Your behavior in the dressing rooms and
backstage areas at all times must avoid any sexual suggestion.
