Supervisor
The Wardrobe Supervisor is in charge of the costumes and dressers for a designated show. The Wardrobe Supervisor is responsible for the organization and maintenance of all costume items for performance.
Duties during the Pre-Tech Rehearsal Period:
1. Meet with the Costume Shop Technician to organize people and work schedule.
2. Meet with the Costume Designer to develop wardrobe book at least two weeks prior to Tech Week.
3. Meet with dressers to discuss and distribute duties.
4. Attend at least one Run-through Rehearsal to know the show thoroughly.
5. Organize the wardrobe book. This includes:
· checkout list
· show inventory list
· laundry and quick change lists
6. Prior to Dress Parade, supervise crew in labeling and other pre-show duties.
7. Supervise actor checkout and dressing of actors for dress parade. After dress parade see that
costumes are in designated place.
8. During dress parade, act as liaison between Costume Designer/ Staff and dressers.
9. Organize duties of crew: assign dressers to actors and to quick-change duties, assign cleaning and
maintenance duties. Adjust Wardrobe Book as needed.
Duties during the Tech Rehearsal and Performance Period:
1. Attend Tech/Dress Rehearsal, Dress Rehearsals, Preview and all performances.
· Note: when costume items are in the Technical Rehearsal, Wardrobe Supervisor must
attend this rehearsal with the Costume Designer.
2. Assign laundry duties.
· Note: such a designation of duties will establish the call time for each crew member for
each performance.
3. See that all costume items are accounted for - before actor call and after performance.
4. Oversee quick -change preparations for each performance.
5. Fill in as a dresser when needed.
6. Supervise all special makeup and hair/wig problems unless a special person has been made
responsible for these duties.
7. Post actor repair request lists each evening before performance.
8. Accomplish any simple and/or emergency repairs before and during performances.
9. Report to Costume Designer and/or Costume Shop Technician any major repairs needed before
next performance.
10. Oversee cleaning, laundry and pressing before each performance.
11. Report any change in the planned costume image on the part of the actor which has not been
confirmed by the Costume Designer.
12. Make sure the costumes are hung properly and the dressing rooms left tidy at the end of each
performance.
13. See that smoking and beverage rules enforced - neither are allowed ON or backstage. Actors are
never allowed to smoke or eat in costume.
14. Memorial Union shows: see that costumes are transported to dressing rooms one hour before
performances.
15. Since space is limited in the dressing
room areas, so is privacy. See that the actors wear robes or
smocks over their undergarments except for those times when the actors are getting in and out of
costumes. Your behavior in the dressing room and backstage areas must at all times avoid any
suggestion of sexual harassment to those working with you.
16. The dressing crew is to report any misconduct in the area of sexual harassment on the part of
actors to you immediately. If you feel you can handle the matter, speak to the person initiating the
harassment. In any case, report the incident as soon as possible to the Costume Technician.
Duties during Cleanup Period:
1. Attend entire strike.
2. Supervise actor check in and cleaning of dressing rooms.
3. Assist Staff in assigned strike duties.
Line of Responsibility:
Your immediate supervisors are the Costume Designer and the Costume Technician. Backstage and onstage the Stage Manager is the final authority.
