UW-Madison Job Description-- Special Projects

 

 

Students assigned to a 'Special Project' takes responsibility for the planning, fabrication, assembly, finishing and installation of one or more specified elements of a production. Special projects are available in many areas: scenery, props, paint, soft goods, sculpture, costumes, millinery, etc.

 

 

Duties during the Construction and Assembly Period:

            1.   Meet with your designated supervisor, usually the Shop Supervisor) to determine the project parameters.

         2.   Determine a timetable and specified lab meetings in which the project will be fabricated.

         3.   Meet a least once a week with your project supervisor to determine your progress and any special needs.

         4.   Sign-in and sign-out at all work sessions on the Backstage Lab attendance sheet by reporting to the TA in charge of the lab.  A Special Project is a goal-oriented assignment, but it is necessary to have your hours totaled for the purpose of refining future time estimations.

 

Duties during the Load-In Period:

            1.   Work a minimum of eight (8) hours during the production Load-in; coordinate your commitment with the load-in of your project(s).  Develop your schedule prior to Load-in, in consultation with your project supervisor.

 

Duties during Clean up Period:

            l.    Assist in the strike in a position directed by your project supervisor.  Your job is not complete until all crews are finished.

     

Line of Responsibility:

            1.   Your immediate supervisor is the Project supervisor as designated;, followed by the Lab TA or faculty/staff supervisor.
